What to Know: A shooting at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill on Monday afternoon led to the death of one faculty member and caused the campus to shutdown for hours as police searched for the suspect. The suspect "was taken into custody about an hour and a half after the gunfire was first reported," The Associated Press reports, noting that police chief James explained that "It took an hour and a half to lift the lockdown after the arrest because authorities were making sure they had the right suspect in custody ..."
Why It Matters: While the suspect is in custody, the motive remains unknown. The police chief explained that the gun used hasn't been found and that it is still unclear whether the suspect and victim knew each other. The names of the victim and suspect have not been made public, as of Tuesday morning.
