Why It Matters: More than 55 million Americans (roughly 1 in 6) were under heat alerts on Monday – an improvement from about double that (110 million) experiencing heat alerts over the weekend. The United States has now experienced close to three months of a consistent heat wave, according to The Washington Post.
This week, Austin and Dallas are expected to be the nation's two hottest big cities, with heat indexes close to or above 105 degrees fahrenheit.
