“It was like drinking a cup of milk tea. When I breathed it in, it tasted a bit sweet.”

Background: While vaccination is not mandated in China, a negative COVID-19 test is required to enter most public places. This new vaccine – "a mist that is sucked in through the mouth" – is being offered to previously vaccinated people as a booster. China has experienced significant disruption to business and trade since the beginning of the pandemic.

Big Picture: Shanghai, China – which is over 3x more populated than New York City with a population of 28,500,000+ people – began administering the new "needle-free" vaccine on Wednesday. China's President Xi was recently re-elected to an unprecedented third term. As the leader of the world's largest Communist Party, he has so far indicated no end to China's "zero-COVID" policy.
