“Now this campaign, I really think, was a referendum on what kind of a Republican Party we want, and what kind of a country we want.”

- Vance, who ranked low in the polls for most of his campaign, recently received an endorsement from former President Trump. A spokesperson for President Trump said his endorsement “propelled (Vance) into a commanding first place finish.”
- Vance faces Rep. Tim Ryan (D) in the general election race. In an ad released the night before the primary election, Rep. Ryan said, "You want culture wars? I'm not your guy. You want a fighter for Ohio? I'm all in."
- Something to consider: The 2022 Ohio Senate campaign has been the most expensive campaign in Ohio history. “This is at least three to four times as much as it's ever been spent on a Republican statewide primary ever. So in Ohio context, it's historical," said Nick Everhart, president of Content Creative Media and Medium Buying and a national GOP media consultant.
- Why It Matters: As politicians prepare for midterm elections, some see Vance's primary win as an indication of how much influence former President Trump has amongst the Republican party. President Trump won Ohio by 8 percentage points in the 2020 election.
